Dream Rain

$1230

13" x 14" x 6"t

Basalt Stone on metal base. This sculpture is Basalt with paint showing many different aspects of possible textures derived from the stone. The circle has a technique which I call ripping the stone attained from cutting then chiseling pieces off showing the natural interior of the stone. There is also copper leaf applied under the circle stone.

You can also see the natural oxidized exterior and a high polish and medium polish areas. The base is steel with a patina made with silver leaf and paint. And once again I highlight the circle a common element of healing in many cultures.

Circles on Field

$1000

24" x 12" x 1.5"

This painting series evolved from my work with sculpture and my love for the work of Mark Rothko. I use my stone sculpture tools to "texture" the wood panels that I paint on. The primary texture is done with my four and nine point chisels with a pneumatic air hammer which creates hundreds of indentations on the surface. Then I can screed pigment into the dimples of the panel and layer other colors over them creating complex yet simple color fields.

Other sculpture tools are used as well such as die grinders, disk sanders, etc. Always striving to attain colors fields that one can get lost in.

A Machadinha (Portuguese for a hatchet)

$2000

21" x 15" x 12"

A Machadinha (Portuguese for hatchet) was inspired by my trip to Portugal where I visited one of the oldest megalith sites in Europe, The site is Almendres Cromlech outside of Evora. Stones arranged by a culture who lived there 7500 years ago. Little is known about these people but it is believed that they configured these large stones to align with heavenly bodies.

This site in Portugal is about 2000 years older than Stonehenge. This piece, A Machadinha, is the first in a series where I imagine that I am walking around the grounds of Almendres Cromlech and spot something sticking out of the ground and after carefully digging I unearth this artifact from this unknown culture that lived 7500 years ago. After spending a month in Portugal so many things have inspired me. I love that country and it's people and it's history. I will call this new series "Portugal Inspired".
